The Friendly Company is a safe place to connect with new people and have meaningful conversations. We’re here to remind you that you’re not alone and we have a growing network of Friends that can’t wait to talk to you.
Our goal is to leave you smiling, feeling encouraged, heard, and valued.
It's amazing how just a few minutes of friendly conversation can improve a person’s day!
What can I expect from this service?
Our is service unique because we offer open, honest, personalized conversation. We’re all about friendly support and building connections, without the typical obligations, history or judgments that might come with your other relationships. Our objective approach means you can open up and just enjoy a respectful, engaging conversation.
Whether it's a short Friendly Hello Check-in or a longer format Friendly Phone Call, you’re our guest and your friend is solely focused on you.
You can book a Friendly Company call every day, once a month or once a year. No matter how much time has passed between calls, our conversations will always pick up on the same friendly note we left on.

How is this different from professional mental health therapy?
We do not offer professional therapy or crisis support.
The Friendly Company is not a substitute and should not be used as such for any medical or mental health issue. If you need support in that area, you can find a list of free resources here (link here).
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger you should call 911 or visit your local hospital emergency room right away.
Our Friends are not licensed psychologists, therapist, social workers, counselors, or any kind of certified mental health professional.
But they are trained to recognize the talking signs of depression, anxiety, and other worrisome thoughts. When any major issue is disclosed or identified, we will always encourage our guests to seek professional support.
Please note that all of our Friends have been carefully vetted and have passed an Ontario Provincial Police background check.
Our Friends have a positive and empathetic mentality, they are open, honest and offer a thoughtful ear and friendly conversation.
When would we be obligated to call the police or an emergency contact? Is that something we would do?
The Friendly Company is about friends talking to friends and because of this we are not bound by the same laws as regulated health professionals. However, we are a moral & ethical company and will always aim to make the right choices.
Our intent is always to keep our conversations light and loving. However, friendships and conversations run their own course and there is no way to know what someone will say next. We have a responsibility to prepare for any scenario and keep you and our friends safe.
Who will I be speaking to? Will it be the same friend every time?

As we continue to grow, our goal is to consistently hire and train new friends. We understand everyone is different and our guests will want additional choices or even multiple friends to chat with. It’s also true that not everyone relates to one another the same way. Comfortable connections don’t happen with everyone. Friendly Company wants you to connect with different personalities, get alternative perspectives, and enjoy engaging with new people or the same trusted friends.
No matter who you talk to you or connect with, we strive to make it a positive experience.

Are you interested in working with us?
We would love to hear from you. We look for friendly, positive people who are grounded with their own real-world experiences. It would be necessary for you to be as open with our guests as they are with you. To ensure everyone’s safety, there is a standard interview, thorough reference checks, comprehensive training, and a police background check required.

Can I talk to my friends via video chat or meet in person?
At this time we do not take video calls. We are solely focused on the conversation and we don’t want anyone to worry about anything else. Take our call in your kitchen while cooking dinner, after a workout or in your car – wherever and whenever works for you.
There is a zero tolerance policy for both guests & our friends regarding any offline conversations or in person meetings. Safety for everyone is always a priority.
What do you mean by ‘personalized' conversation?
At the Friendly Company we don't use templates to narrate our conversations – we speak from our hearts.
Like any good friend, we make the effort to remember your kids and grandkids names; that hilarious story about when you were camping in Alberta and got lost with your husband; that you love dogs, but your parents never let you get one – experiences that make you who you are.
We aim to connect through mutual understanding, respect, reminiscing about similar experiences and sharing new stories together. Our Friends are looking forward to getting to know you and giving you the attention you deserve.
Cancellations, Missed Calls and Refunds - What if I miss my call?
Pursuant to our policy, we will attempt to contact you two times for your scheduled service.
Please be advised that we are unable to process a refund if you miss our attempts to contact you.
Friendly Phone Call - Should you wish to cancel or reschedule a Friendly Phone Call, please provide 24 hours advance notice. Notice can be made via our Contact Us page, or you may reply directly to the original e-mail confirmation.
Friendly Hello - This service is offered as a monthly purhase and you choose which days and time frames you're available to recieve a calls. Should you wish to change, cancel or reschedule a Friendly Hello, you can do so as a request for the next month's service. We can not guarantee mid-month changes will be approved but please Contact Us so we can try and find a solution.
What is considered inappropriate for discussion?
To align with our goal of sharing moments of happiness and a smile, we aim to keep our conversations light-hearted and fun.
The following is a list of inappropriate actions that could result in you being barred from our services.
Foul and/or aggressive language directed at our employees.
Racist commentary, personal insults, rude humour or hurtful comments towards our employees or within the context of conversation.
Flirting or conversations of a sexual nature. We are not a dating site.
Conversations that knowingly make your Friend uncomfortable
Is there an age restriction to use this service?
Anyone over the age of 19 can use our service. We think it's wonderful to speak with adults of all age groups.
Different age groups typically require different types of communication and touch points. This is something we cover in training with all our Friends and we are prepared to talk to everyone with the same outlook and enthusiasm :)
